Executive Summary

A financial training organization was operating a business-critical training system across a large number of servers in a traditional infrastructure environment. The platform supported digital learning, course management, user access, assessment activities, reporting, and administrative operations for internal users, trainers, and external participants.

As the system grew, the existing infrastructure faced increasing limitations in scalability, security governance, resiliency, and operational efficiency. Partnering with Galactic Network, the organization migrated its entire financial training system to AWS using a structured, five-phase migration framework aligned with AWS best practices, achieving 99.9% uptime, reducing security vulnerabilities by 80%, and cutting operational overhead by 40%.

About the Company

The client is a financial training organization delivering digital learning and professional development programs to internal users, trainers, and external participants. Its training platform serves as the operational backbone for course management, assessments, reporting, and administrative activities, making its reliability and performance critical to the organization’s mission.

As the platform continued to grow, the organization recognized the need to modernize its infrastructure to support future business growth with greater security, scalability, and operational control.

The Challenge

Before the migration, the organization managed a large number of servers across application, database, reporting, file storage, and supporting services. The existing environment presented several compounding challenges.

During peak training periods, including course enrollment windows, assessment sessions, and reporting activities, the system experienced significant performance constraints that impacted the experience of users and trainers. At the same time, infrastructure management required substantial manual effort across server maintenance, backup monitoring, patching, capacity planning, and incident response, creating high operational overhead for the IT team.

Underlying these challenges was a weak security posture: aging operating systems with high vulnerability findings, a lack of encryption, and limited security guardrails exposed the organization to considerable risk, particularly given the sensitive nature of financial training data.

The Solution

Galactic Network led the migration of the organization’s financial training system to AWS using a structured, five-phase approach aligned with the AWS Well-Architected Framework.

The project began with a detailed discovery and assessment of all existing servers, reviewing each based on its role, dependencies, operating system, application function, data flow, and business criticality. A secure AWS landing environment was then established, covering network setup, subnet segmentation, IAM access controls, logging, monitoring, backup configuration, and baseline security services.

Servers were migrated in logical waves based on application dependency and business priority, lower-risk and supporting servers first, followed by application and database components. After migration, the environment was hardened using AWS-native security controls: access was restricted based on least privilege, sensitive data was encrypted, logs were centralized, and monitoring alarms were configured for key system metrics.

In the final phase, compute and database resources were right-sized based on actual workload usage. Performance monitoring was used to identify bottlenecks, optimize instance sizing, and improve application responsiveness, ensuring the platform could handle peak training periods without degradation.

Results

The migration delivered meaningful improvements across security, availability, and operational efficiency. Security vulnerabilities were reduced by 80% through systematic hardening, encryption, and the adoption of AWS-native security controls, significantly strengthening the organization’s security posture and audit readiness.

The financial training system now operates at 99.9% uptime, ensuring reliable access for users, trainers, and participants throughout course enrollment, assessment, and reporting cycles. Operational overhead was reduced by 40% as manual infrastructure management tasks were replaced by automated, cloud-native processes, freeing the IT team to focus on strategic initiatives rather than day-to-day server maintenance.

With a scalable and secure cloud foundation in place, the organization is well-positioned to expand its digital training programs and deliver reliable financial education services with greater confidence and operational control.
